Newcastle United’s search for a right-back could take them to Germany.
It has been reported that Newcastle United want to sign a full-back in January, with reinforcements on the right side of defence suddenly becoming essential.
Tino Livramento is injured again, joining Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth on the sidelines. Eddie Howe does not have a single senior right-back available to him, with Lewis Miley being asked to play out of position despite being a centre-midfielder.
The Livramento injury has strengthened the need for Newcastle United to be active in January, and now a target has emerged for Eddie Howe.
Newcastle United interested in Sacha Boey
Signing player from further afield feels more likely following Ross Wilson’s arrival as sporting director, and he could look towards the Bundesliga in his bid to buy a right-back.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United are one of multiple Premier League clubs interested in Bayern Munich defender Sacha Boey.

They state that Crystal Palace are also keen on the Frenchman, with Boey’s representatives holding talks with various clubs over a January transfer.
TEAMtalk add that the 25-year-old is ‘on track to move to England’ in early 2026.
Competition from Crystal Palace is interesting, as they also have an injury issue on the right side of defence. Daniel Munoz has been one of the Premier League’s most impressive defenders this season, but is currently out of action due to a knee problem.
Sacha Boey shares agent with two Newcastle United stars
Boey has made 14 appearances for Bayern Munich this season, but not many of them have been as a starter.
He has been named in Vincent Kompany’s starting XI on just six occasions, so it is easy to understand why he is seeking a fresh start in January.
Newcastle United could potentially offer him that, and they have an ace up their sleeve when it comes to negotiations. Boey is represented by CAA Stellar, who also represent Newcastle United players Nick Pope and Will Osula.
Interestingly, CAA Stellar also represent Newcastle United target James Trafford and former Toon player Elliot Anderson.
